I am planning to visit Beijing on a solo trip in sept/oct as i was told the weather would be good. Is 4 day good enough? Planning to stay at Prime Hotel (any good) and join the tour http://www.asiatravel.com/china/tours/daytour.html (any good?). It is not easy to find tours on the net for single traveller. What about shopping? Need all expert advise! Thank you in advance.

Where got problem going solo in Beijing ?
Autumn is a good season for everything.
If u wanna see BJ in details, at least 5-7 days. Suggest rent a bicycle as most of the attractions are within short distances. It is also a fun/healthy way to see the city.
Alternatively join a local tour esp for trip out of the city (eg Great Wall) - provided u understand Mandarin. It's value for money. Contact your hotel upon check in - easily arranged with 1 day's notice.
If solo, the spot guides at the attraction spots are very good and give u very good & interesting background information - go for it - it's cheap.
Hotel - Prime is a 5-star. But go to this website for guests' comments/feedback & other choices :-

Enjoy.

Travel China Guide provides tours for solo travelers. I can't see why some other travel sites do not provide such kind of tour, but the price will be quoted according to the single hotel occupancy, higher than shared basis.

Have a good trip!

I agree with Pinetree,5--7 days are reasonable!

You can find shopping places in the cities, and I don't think you should join a tourist group!

Welcome!!!

I agree with the others. Why join a tour, and why spend all your money on an expensive hotel ?

There are so many cheap and cheerful hostels in Beijing that will have 2 advantages over any hotel.

1. You will meet loads of fellow travellers who can help you/make friends with you etc.
2. You will have much more money to spend on visiting attractions in BJ, eating and/or drinking lots of fabulous Chinese cuisine.

The downtown of Beijing is very compact, easily wanderable on foot or bicycle and all other outlying attractions can be easily accessed by bus (most hostels have all the information you need, and will even book day-trips for you).

Check out the travel tips on Beijing in this forum for hostel recommendations and must-see activities.

Most of all, have a brilliant time :)
