![]() | Hi everyone. A while back I asked for advice about where to go after Beijing and everyone here was a great help. At the time I planned to go to Australia first but unfortunately work has gone on longer than I planned and there really isn't enough time to do it justice. The good thing is though that I should be able to spend longer in China! So, my new question is : where to go BEFORE Beijing. I'm thinking a good place to start is Hong Kong as I hadn't planned to go there to begin with ( After Beijing I roughly plan to go -> Xi’an -> Chengdu -> Chongquing -> Other places! -> Shanghai ). I'll probably have about 3 weeks from landing until having to be in Beijing (28th June where I'll be teaching English for a month). So I could either stay close to Hong Kong and visit surrounding areas and fly from Hong Kong to Beijing for the 28th or make my way North by land for 3 weeks. So, does anyone have any advice? Is there enough around Hong Kong to keep me busy for 3 weeks? Or should I set off North? Any thoughts at all would be really welcome. Thanks a lot Dan |

![]() | If this is your first time to China, would suggest visit the main cities first. In this way u will have an idea of how modern & historical China is. It will erase any mindset/misconception of "backward" China. Places to go may incl Shanghai, HK, Xian, GZ, Dalian, Qingdao. After u have visited some of the above, u may then wish to visit the rest of China incl XinJiang, Mongolia, Tibet & the Dongbei. These are very different from the normal Han areas. U will then appreciate the variety/colours of this mass land that houses arguably the most cultured/intelligent people in the world !! |
