Hello there, What other cities in China, besides Tibet, do get influenced heavily by Tibetan cultures? I'm personally very interested in Tibetan culture and people. For some reason, however, I can't go to Tibet. So, I'm wondering if there're other cities in China, besides Tibet, that I can go and am able to experience the Tibetan culture. Appreciate your answers on this. Thanks. Cheers, Almond

There are many Tibeten Autonomous Prefectures outside of Tibet Autonomous Region and several provinces are influenced more or less by Tibetan cultures, the provinces like: Yunnan(Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture), Gansu(Gannan ...), Sichuan(Ganzi & Aba), Qinghai(Hainan, Huangnan, Yushu, Guoluo and Haibei) and Inner Mongolia ...

Dear Rita, Thanks tons. That's very useful! Anyhow, one more question though. Are there any direct flights to Mongolia? I'm advised to fly to Beijing first, and later catch a plane from Beijing to Mongolia. Appreciate your answer on this. Thanks. Cheers, Almond

Hi Almond, Well, Mongolia you meant Inner Mongolia or Mongolia Republic? But whichever you meant, there are flights to the capital cities from Beijing.

Hi Rita, Thanks a lot for your post. Comparing Inner Mongolia to Mongolia Republic, which one would you recommend to go? Appreciate your answers as usual. Cheers, Almond

It depends on yourself, It is easy to go Inner Mongolia from Beijing to the capital city Hohhot, and about 12 hours by train. Inner Mongolia was very beautiful, everywhere in it!Including grassland, desert, lake and river! And Mongolia Rep. was an amazing country! Good luck!

Like Tibetans, Mongolians are born Buddhist (they believe in Tibetan Buddhism). If you want to experience genuine Tibetan culture and people, capital cities are not as good as those 'autonomous prefectures/ counties' where there are large groups of Tibetans that keep the unspoiled Tibetan cultures. Thus, you will have to go deeper inside the regions of the provinces i listed.
