Hi friendly China-travelers,

I've been reading forum threads and it seems like if I wanted to tour grasslands near Hohhot and see temples, the best thing would be to get there first by train and then find a local agency.
Does anyone have any tips for spotting a good agency versus a bad one?
Also- is it possible to have a good trip in 2 days?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi there,

I myself am planning to head there in a month also! Anyway, surfing various kinds of sites, I agree with you that the best way to get to Hohhot is to take a night train taking about 11 hours from Beijing to Hohhot.

For grassland trips, I personally look for the least commercialized one. So, I’m suggested to go to Huitengxile, which will take about 3-4 hours to get there. The book says it costs Y920 for two-day trip.
Another interesting site would be Geglutala, which takes 2-3 hours to get there. Two-day trip costs Y960.

The recommended agencies I find are CTS, west of train station and Youth Travel Service, 91 Zhongshan Douglu. Try YTS! It’s been marked as friendly and helpful.

Hope this helps. If not, feel free to drop more notes.
