I'm travelling to Beijing with my parents who are in their sixties and want to visit a section of the Wall (other than Badaling) which will be OK for them to easily walk along. I have already been to Mutinayu (please excuse spelling!) and am keen to try somewhere else.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I did Simatai with my father. He is in his late 40's and in excellent shape but he still found the trek a little rigorous and unsafe. They consider Simatai a part of the GW that is in a more "natural state". This means that there have been far less renovations on this part than the other parts. Badaling, for example, is almost entirely renovated. (I hope I am not offending you by telling you things you may already know... I just want to give you as many details as possible.)
With that said, I would not recommend Simitai because of how steep it was and because of the condition it is in. It is kind of unsafe and really tiring. I do recommend it, though, if you want to see the true splendor of the Great Wall. I will never forget it.

If it will be the 1st time for your parents to visit and climb the Great Wall, I still recommend the Badaling and Mutianyu though you have been to.
Badaling is the section where most tourists go. The wall is famous for its completeness, imposing structures and the famous Juyonguan Pass. Most pictures publicized on guide books, brochures and magazines are taken in this section. But you may find yourself being pushed forward by crowds on top of wall in holidays or peak reasons. The Mutianyu section in Huairou County, seventy kilometers northeast of Beijing is a good alternative.

And some other scene spots I think are for those hikers and adventurers who have good constitution:D

Not yet resorted to the level of Badaling and Mutianyu, the wall in Jinshanling, Simatai and Gubeikou is a bit smaller and narrower than that in Badaling. Upon hiking on these sections, you can find much more of the genuine bricks, and fortifications left behind from ancient times. Here you can get a real glimpse at the ancient history of China. Group tours arranged by travel agencies often have Badaling, Mutainyu, Simatai and sometimes Jinshanling on their itinerary.

In recent years, the Great Wall in Huanghuacheng and Jiankou (Arrow Nock), about twenty-nine kilometers northwest of Huairou city has become an ideal choice for hiking lovers and adventurers. The section has steep precipices on either side, a reservoir and charming wide flowers. It is a section of the great wall off the beaten track. Be sure to pack necessary clothes, sports foot wares, drinking water and a flash light. This section is for adventurers.

No matter which section you visit, this magnificent engineering achievement tells you the history of China.

Hope this can be a little helpful to you. Also hope you can share your wonderful Great Wall hiking with us:D
