HI.Elena. I think the easiest way to travel from guangzhou to guilin is by bus...because there is no train from guangzhou to guilin. If you take a bus from guangzhou to guilin. It may take you at least 10 hours.

I tried both, so I will tell you from my experience... Travel between Guangzhou and Shenzhen is very simple and easy, T-type trains (fast ones) are leaving every 15 minutes (literally) and duration is around 1h, very convenient (65-80rmb/ticket). From Guangzhou there are 4 flights daily, duration is around 50 minutes (570-770rmb/ticket) Seems there's no flights from Shenzhen to Shantou. Few times I went to Chaozhou (city near Shantou), and I took bus from Guangzhou, I remember we passed through Shantou. It takes around 4-5h from Guangzhou to Shantou by bus, something around 100rmb/ticket. If you need more information, let me know ok. Cheers, Sale

In previous post I forgot that you also asked "should I fly to Guangzhou ...or Shenzhen"... It depends which place you're coming from. Guangzhou has much better international connections than Shenzhen (direct flights to Paris, Frankfurt, Helsinki and Amsterdam in Europe, then Sydney, and all big cities in Asia, and even U.S. too I think Detroit). But you should have in mind these direct connections are generally expensive, and if you like to save money I recommend flying to Hong Kong, it's still real hub for south China due to very competitive and low fares from all international hubs and huge selection of destinations from all around the world (but should book in advance, HK is hot destination). From Hong Kong, everything is easy, Shenzhen is just across the border, and Guangzhou is reachable by bus directly from HK airport, or by train from HK train station in city. It all depends how much you're planning to spend on travel. If you want to save and don't mind som bus/train/border connections, then HK is ideal, but if want to arrive fast and directly, then have to pay more for international flights straight to Guangzhou.

Thank you for the information May I know in Guangzhou where is the main city area? Also where is the place where one can find convenience of food, transport, entertainment and reasonably priced hotels? It is easy to join an organised tour from Guangzhou to Shantou such as 3days/2nights or 4 days /3nights
