I have a friend who will travel to China soon. This will be her first time in China(Shanghai), and she is traveling on a tight budget. She doesn't speak Chinese, nor does she understand any, though she is ready to learn some after this trip. She needs a roof over her head during her stay in Shanghai, ideally a 2 to 3 star accommodation <should be clean and private bathroom is required> with good English speaking staff will be sufficient. Thank you very much for any info!!

Hi there, I don't know how much your friend wishes to pay but I have just returned from Shanghai and stayed in the Galaxy Hotel. The way I looked at it most staff spoke english and couldn't be more helpful. There was a variety of different eating areas and the staff also made things for a westerner very safe. I travelled alone and for the price I thought it was very good comparing it to Australia ( I am Aussie )I would stay at the Galaxy on my next visit to Shanghai, no problem. Best of Luck to your friend.

Some of the motels or youth hostels are not bad for those on budget.
