Hi All,

I noticed no one has mentioned about travelling to Lhasa in the period of Nov/Dec 06. Is this a good period to go there? Will it be terribly cold during that period?

Planning to be in Kunming on 14 Nov 06 and travel to Dali, Lijiang, Zhongdian and Lhasa (likely be there around end Nov 06), then back to Kunming before flying home.

Anyone knows if it's possible to make travel arrangement to Lhasa from Kunming or is it better to do so in Zhongdian? Any budget travel agent available?

Your input and advice will be most appreciated.

Warmest regards,
Advent

Nov/Dec is fine in Lhasa and even the best days. Less tourists and warm in the daytime. Cold during the night but not even colder than Beijing!
From Zhongdian to Lhasa is good. You can save a lot of time. The air tickets to Lhasa is always expensive, with no or less discount.

Thanks, May001 for your input.

How does one go around arranging for budget accommodation from home country? Most budget accommodations do not have email but only tel no.

Is Nov/Dec a low period? What's the chances of not getting accommodation in Dali, Lijiang, Zhongtian and Lhasa? What's the ranges one has to pay for budget accommodation?

Appreciate to receive any input on the above.

Thanks!

Warmest Regards,
Advent

The only seriously peak times are first weeks of May and October and the spring festival after New Year.

You will be travelling off season and should have no problems getting nice budget accommodation for less than the going rate.

Just on weekends you will probably have less leverage as there will be more visitors about.

Yes, JABAROOTOO is right. May and Oct are not good time for travel around China. Recently I'm lingering a website featuring Tibet trip, you can have look and find many useful information:

Cheers!

Do the same rules apply to foreigners when buying a home in Tibet as in other eastern regions such as beijing..changshu, changdu, etc?

Can we live outside the region for year then move into the region and buy once we have a job or so on?
