A lot of people offering help on this site are nothing but touts and commission agents. They get commissions on your hotel room bookiing and purchases

I believe so, but not so absolute. Care to share with us your experience? You didn't draw this conclusion based on nothing, right?

There are a lot of shills here. ...but even the shills add value here: When you are coming from 12-thousand miles away any information is helpful. And because there are many community members who will counter the comments of the shills with a "HOGWASH!" comment you can take the shills suggestion with a grain of salt. You do not have that benefit when you are on the ground in China with no understanding of the language and precious little understanding of the culture (no matter how much you have read).

It is certainly based on experience. It may not be possible here to go in such detail and give you all the instances footloose

If 'the price is right' it doesnt matter that someone is acting as an agent in here... as already stated, if you are along way off, that is often just what u need. It is usually clear which are fee payable posts and free offers. Seems there is room for both provided the fee services dont become overwhelming.

Whatever it is, only you need to be on your toes all the time. Remember, nothing in this world is free except the air that we breathe in...

I do help with accommodation bookings too, and I'm not in the "business" of getting kick-backs from anyone. Strange that I didn't get a request from you though. :P
