i went back this summer but didn't know abuot it so didn't try it and now i may not be able to be back for quite some time. but as to the food in xi'an, i like liang pi (凉皮) and rou jia mo (肉夹馍 meat in a bun) the best. :) mouth watering....

A dessert from the Muslim Street hawkers got a nice name, something like crystal custard... and was said to be associated the Qing Dowager in exile in xian. I wonder if it is a proper x'ian specialty or simply a tourist gimmick... as I bought a book of Shaanxi gastronomy but that was not listed there.
