travel advice needed from Lijiang to Shanghai

MLESTEVE Points: Join Date: Oct 27, 2004 Status: offline	HI. I need some advice. I am new to China. I am going on a whitewater kayak trip down the tiger leaping gorge in January. But i am then doing a study program in Shanghai. I need to be in Shanghai by Feb. 20th and i will be done in Lijiang by January 30th. I have done a lot of traveling in other parts of the world, but never China. So what is the best way, best experience, best scenery, etc. to get to Shanghia from the Yunan province? By train? i am not too worried about comfort...i am young...don't need anything really nice ya know? How about boat travel down the Yangtze? does that exist in the winter? also anyone know how cold it get in Lijiang in January/February?? thanks M

Hi
The best way from Shanghai to Lijiang should be by air. There are direct flight between the two cities, and the airfare will be around RMB2500, usually no many discount. Will not suggest you take train since this journey will take you more than 45 hours and till now no direct trains.

For the cruise tour along the Yangtze, it will in close time from December to the next middle March because of the water level.

MLESTEVE Points: Join Date: Oct 27, 2004 Status: Offline	thanks for the tip, i know that it is a really long train journey from Lijiang to Shanghai, but i have a month to do it in, so it would not be a direct trip. I'd like to make stops along the way. If i fly i would just be going over a lot of China, and thats not to exciting. So if i were to do trains, any ideas of what cities to visit on a trip plan from Lijiang to Shanghai?? thanks M

Here comes a route. Lijiang(long distance bus 4hours)==>Dali(train)==>Kunming(train)==>Shanghai.
Two possible trains from Kunming to Shanghai.
1.K80 14.42 sets out from Kunming raiway station.It will take 41hours 51minutes. You can also stop by Hangzhou if you have enough time.
2.K182 20.36. Will take 43 hours 18 minutes. Also you can stop over by Nanning, Guilin,Hangzho,Jiaxing to enjoy the trip around China.
