Someone told me that you cannot buy train tickets until 10 days
at the earliest before the departure date. Is this true, even for
international train tickets (i.e. Beijing to UB) Is this only a rule at
the train stations? how about at hotels and travel agencies, can i
buy tickets a month in advance? anyone know if I will have
trouble buying tickets from Beijing to UB (Ulaanbaator), is there
a high demand in Dec? or I am the only person in the world who
wants to freeze this winter in the gobi dessert?

This isn't a peak travel season for this route, but I think it's still advisable to go through an agent instead of trying at the train station yourself. The rules for international tickets differ from the domestic tickets. Try emailing Richard Tian at public3.bta.net.cn|richards for more information.
