Lilacken mentioned hitch hiking in a recent thread. Has anyone any experience of doing this in China? I have heard that it is possible to get rides and pay some money, but that it can be more expensive than buses.

Anyone with some first hand knowledge?

Have not tried it much, but sometimes you do get a ride for free and sometimes you have to pay a little.

highly not recommended to hitch-hike - best n safer to take the inter-city buses or train (hard-seat) which arefairly cheap and convenient.
