Hey there, we are planning a trip to China in Feb. At the moment we get the overnight train from Beijing-Xian, spend the day in Xian see the Terracotta army + museum etc then bail on the overnight train to Shanghai that night. Is this physically possible?? Thanks guys Ben

Hi Ben, I think you could take the overnight train from Xian to Chongqing, after you visit Xian.Afterwards you should take the cruise ship down the river from Chongqing to Yichang to tour amazing Yangtze three gorges and new dam. Cheers!

Yes, you can achieve your plan. No problem at all. After you arrive at Xian, just go to take Bus 306 at the southeast corner of Railway Station Square and it will take you to the Terracotta Army Museum. Later that afternoon, you can take the train and come back to the station to catch the Shanghai train.

"...spend the day in Xian see the Terracotta army + museum etc then bail on the overnight train to Shanghai that night." It is physically possible, but you have to remove "etc" , you can only finish the Terracotta Army and the Historic Museum that day, including 2 or 3 meals if you need. It will be physically demanding too:D Enjoy your trip!

It depends whether you can sleep well in the overnight train from Beijing to xi'an or not!!! Good luck!

Yes, all possible except for the fact that I don't think you'll be able to buy any sleeper train tickets for Xi'an--Shanghai on such short notice.
