Can anyone tell me if there are major public celebrations on the last day of Chinese New Year (March 4, 2007, I believe)? Will restaurants be crowded?

You've got the wrong date. 1st day of Chinese New Year 2007 is 18th Feb.

yes, lanterns will be displayed and a lot of shows in different places such as temples, you can always find joy in China!
