I'm planning to send a box of Christmas candy to a friend in Guangzhou. Is Chinese mail delivery reliable? ...and if the package goes to her apartment, is there a high chance of it being stolen? My last package to her never arrived.

Having the address written in Chinese characters would also help, if you haven't already done so.

I've always received packages sent from England in all except one case. Usually, they are written in English too, though I think Ellyse's advice is sound! The only parcel that didn't arrive was returned to the sender in England, though it took about 2 months to get back to her. Interestingly the reason cited was "insufficient address", yet she had used the same address as everyone else ! I think the mail service itself is usually very reliable :)

I would reccomend sending by UPS, it is expensive, but very reliable, Had expensive clothes and electronics sent to me, with the address spelt wrong in english, but it still ended up at my door somehow. so I guess it depends on what you are sending, I wouldnt send expensive things via regular Chinese mail.

I wouldn't even try without the address in Chinese! I get friends to write email the address so I can print it off, then physically caut and paste onto the envelope. When I have included small amounts of cash, that has arrived ok (so far!)
