Has anyone here walked into Lhasa before, instead of going by motorized vehicle? I am thinking of traveling to Lhasa, Tibet next August and was considering walking in there instead of taking the train. Just thought it would be more respectful of the local customs, since I heard that Tibetans walk to Lhasa over long distances to purify their Karma. In a sense I feel that the new train is an invasion of their land, and prefer to do as the locals do. I suppose I could take the train partway and then walk for maybe two weeks?

Does anyone know anything about the hiking paths? I am not averse to hiking and sleeping in tents for a few weeks if I can find a good path that has many pedestrians already.
