Is there a way to get from Hong Kong to Haikou other than air? We are interested in a ferry boat. Also, could you tell me if Hainan is connected to the mainland by a bridge or something? Thank you for your help.

You can take a train from HK to Shenzhen Luohu Station, then take a bus to Haikou directly. If you would like to take a ferry boat, you have to go to Guangzhou from Shenzhen. Because as far as I know, there are no ferry boat from Shenzhen to Haikou now. Or you can take a train from Guangzhou to Haikou.

Bty, there is no any connection between Hainan and mainland. Even you come to Haikou by bus or train, the bus and train still need to drive on the big ferry boat.
