GUEST17206,

It is a bit too early. You may take a taxi. It costs around CNY 160. Or you can reach PVG very early by taking Airport Bus Line No. 7. It costs only CNY 20. But the last bus departs from Shanghai South Railway Station at 21:30.

"Best" is subjective. How many of you are there and how much luggage would you have?
The Maglev only goes between Pudong airport and the other terminus at Longyang Lu, in the boonies of Pudong district. Nowhere near Shanghai South train station or anywhere in Puxi.

If you need to go from Shanghai South train station to Pudong airport at 0550, the only available mode of transport would be taxi -- barring arranging for an airport transfer.

Other than taxi, the only option is the late-night shuttle. It will stop at Longyang Lu metro stop (line 2), the Dongfang Lu x Zhangyang Lu junction, and Pudong Dadao in Pudong; in Puxi it will stop at the Zhejiang Zhonglu x Yan'an Zhonglu junction, the Shimen Yilu x Yan'an Zhonglu junction, the Huashan Lu x Yan'an Zhonglu junction, the Hongxu Lu x Yan'an Xilu junction and finally at Hongqiao airport.
If you need help pinpointing which stop you need to get off at, email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username in the subject line.

GUEST12526 Thanks so much. I'm worry about how can I get the taxi at airport. Do they have the taxi services counter which I can pay or make a booking there before get in to a taxi. I don't want to do bargain with Taxi driver.

Thanks,

Taxis should go by meter, and you pay when you reach the destination. However there's a midnight surcharge after 2300 and it would be expensive.

What is your definition of "economical"? It would be more helpful to name a specific price range in monetary terms.
You can email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 -- put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username (eg Lipu) in the subject line.
