Hello out there, I am about to come to Xian for eight months to study at Xian University. Pretty nervous / excited. Was wondering if anybody has any advice on what to bring etc. I've read some of the forum and it seems buying stuff if your big is an issue - I'm 6'4" tall chap - is this really that much of a problem? How much is it going to cost to live - excluding accomodation? Basically - what should I expect?? Is is fun? Cheers : )

Hi, Welcome to Xian. It's pretty warm in Xian now, but you still have to wear sweater and coat. 6'4" is about 1.85 m, right? Not a big problem for you to find clothes. You can buy sportswear, casual clothes, etc. Money is enough :) Living in China, specially in Xian, is quite cheap. Generally 1000 to 2000 is enough for student. If you go to big restaurants, pub and bars frequently, they might cost you much. Xian is a city full of Chinese culture, history and art. It's also a modern city and you can find what you want. Cheers,

I've never heard of a Xian University? What is its full name? It will not cost you much in Xian. USD 2000 is more than enough for 8 months. Surely, it depends on how you spend money!

Hi Felixtj, Take it easy. Xi'an locals are quite friendly, straightforward and warm-hearted. Believe you will have many friends here. Xi'an is an ancient city with many many historical and cultural sites. Terro-cotta Warriors, City Walls, Big Wild Goose Pagoda, Huaqing Hot Spring, Shaanxi Provincial History Museum, Stone Tablets Museum...... You will learn more about Chinese history and culture after your eight month stay. Landscape is also attractive here. Mountains, rivers, natinal forest parks......To explore the city at weekeds is best choice! Welcome ^_^

Hi Ta ta, so happy to hear you will come to Xi'an this year! March is a nice time to come and i think you need to firstly get familiar with things surrounding your university, such as stores, restaurants, transportations...... Qinglong Temple is a good choice near your university! When April comes, cherry blossoms thrivingly there, seeming to welcome you. ^_^ It's really a popular spot in April. Xingqing Palace Park is also near your university. Every spring, there will be flowers exhibition! You can enjoy various flowers as well as romantic love stories between Tang Emperor Xuanzong and his favorite lady Yang Yuhuan! evening :)
