Hi there,
I am a french citizen living in LA.I want to go to Shanghai for 12
months to do business research.problem is if I apply for such a
visa at consulate here, they ask me an invitation letter from
chinese company and government.I have been told I can bypass
that trouble by getting my visa with a Hong kong company or to
go to Shanghai with an easy to get tourisy visa and to change it
other there for a fee.
Is it true ? which travel agency in HK do you recommend ?Thanks
for big help.

hello Misterc,
just forget what you've heard.
You must do it the right way or you will be sorry afterwards, plus of course it'll cost you a lot of money to do what you should have done on the first place.
rgds, orionn

Salut MisterC

Different Chinese Visa is for different purpose. If you go to Shanghai for business research as what you said above, you should get a Visit/Business Visa (Visa F). For Visa F, the invitation letter from the inviting unit or a visa notification letter/telegram from the authorised unit is required.

But if you want a Tourism Visa (Visa L), I think if you book a tour to Shanghai, China, that would be easy, fast and convenient.

agree. but only if your're outside of China. if you're already in China on a tourist visa or business visa usually easieist to use one of the china visa consultants. especially if you want to stay for a long time like 1 yr. if you just want a business visa or tourist visa maybe check out enoo.net or if you have a company that wants to employ you they can get everything done through the Shanghai Visa Center at www.visa.cn.com (this is who my company used)

It is true. My bf, Canadian, got a business visa in HK. It took only one day and no documents needed. For his 6-month, multiple entries visa he paid only 700 hk dollars (100 us dollars). You can also get 1 year business visa for a little bit more.
I think most of the agencies in HK have this service. You might have to compare carefully the prices though.

cheers,
yan
