On the Eve of the Chinese New Year, people are inclined to wash their feet, which is believed to bring a bumper foodstuff in the following year. On the New Year, Lunar January 1, when people have washed their faces, the water used mustn’t be poured out, while a disobeying to this rule is deemed to throw the fortune of the coming year away. People are not allowed to do any homework, except their cooking. Even scissors are forbidden to be used, for scissors are considered as symbol of needlework

Additionally, on the NEW YEar Day, the dust in the room can be cleaned into a pile but shouldn't be cleaned out of the room, which is also believed the fortune would be out if so. And we are advised to prepare enough water on the eve, and should not pick water from the manual well on the new year day.
