![]() | Hi everybody, Please can someone offer me advice on whether the above itinerary is feasible? I realise it may be quite a round-about route but I wanted to finish in Hong Kong to meet up with a friend. I has estimated spending around 5-6 days in Beijing, 3-4 in Xi'an, 8 in Shanghai (including a couple of days at Huangshan), 7 in Guilin and 5 in Hong Kong. Also, with regards to transport what are people's experience with the trains on any of these journeys with regards to duration/comfort/price? I'm aware they are very long but I'm a bit dubious about the safety of internal flights! Time is a factor though as 5 weeks is the absolute limit including all travel. Thanks John |

![]() | Okay, scratch that. Would Beijing-Xi'an-Guilin-Hong Kong-Shanghai be better? Thanks |

![]() | No, Beijing-Xi'an-Shanghai-Guilin-HK is better. The first one is not considerable cos Guilin is nearer to HK and Shanghai is far away. If you choose the second one, there will be visa problem on re-enter mainland China. You can take overnight train which is cheaper and safer from Beijing to Xian and Xian to Shanghai. The train from Shanghai to Guilin will take you more than 26 hour and I think flying is better. When you are in Guilin, you can find trains to Shenzhen which will cost you about 15 hours. Then take a bus to HongKong from Shenzhen. |

![]() | Thanks for the advice. When you said I may have visa problems when re-entering mainland China after Hong Kong I am not sure what you mean, is there any chance you can clarify this/explain in more detail? Is this a problem that can be solved? My second proposed root is quite desirable as the person I am travelling with wants to go back to Beijing after Shanghai (completing a circular route) to fly home and I wanted to stay in the Shanghai area to visit Huangshan and Hangzhou at this point. I could see no other way for them to visit the sites in Guilin/Hong Kong before they had to leave due to time constraints. I will definitely be considering the train from Guilin to Shenzhen (even if it is 15 hours) as I am not overly happy on internal flights. I had no seen this option so I'm glad you brought it to my attention. Thanks again John |

![]() | It depends on your visa. If it is a single entry visa, you can't re-enter mainland China. And you have to apply for another visa in HK. |

![]() | Applying for a new visa in HK would certainly not be a problem. If you get to the visa office in Wanchai at 9am when it opens, you'll probably be able to get a visa by midday. Such quick service costs a little extra (depending on where you're from), of course, but HK is still by far the quickest, easiest, most efficient place to get a visa for the mainland. |

![]() | So could I buy a double entry VISA before I get there to solve this problem? This seems like the easiest solution if possible. Thanks jeffyang. I've only got a few ideas for Xi'an so far; namely the Teracotta warriors, Qianling Museum, Famen Temple etc. and maybe a trip to Shaanxi but when I have some more detailed ideas I may contact you. Thanks John |
