Hi guys,
It seems that every city or towns of China has its own local snacks and food. Of course, they are the must in our trip. However, according to my experience, the places selling the real authentic local snack and food usually is not very hygeian. It is because their low price (limited profit) and frequent passenger flow volume. So, the star-rated restaurants are often recommended with a little higher price.

So, my question is where will you go for your Chinese dinner, clear hotels with good service but high payment or reasonable hophouse ?

It's always possible to find a decent, clean local restaurant. I've never needed to go waste my money on over-refined rubbish in some star-rated hole (sorry, I really don't like those places), but I've never needed to risk my health, either. It's just a matter of looking around until you find somewhere with the right mix of cleanliness, price, and taste, and one beautiful part of living or travelling in China is that you never have to look too far or too long to find such a place.

To cite for an example, in Xi'an, we tried the restaurants with a tradition and Shaanxi specialties as well as the many snacks.
We went to Dafacheng, Lao Sun Jia, Jia Brothers Guantung Baoxi, the chain restaurant of homemade soups, several muslim restaurants (barbecue, Paomo...) at Muslim Street and Shaoxi noodles ones everywhere downtown, and during sightseeings must stop and eat at the restaurant opposite the terracotta army site, outside qian ling at Xianyang. We bought the pomegranates and rose crystal custards with the Hui hawkers, and the helmet in street stall at xianyang.... as far as i remember. Also been to the brazilian barbecue at Fan lane (not good!)

I eat at both restaurants and street stalls. Some specialities are found only in restauarants, others only in the street. I've eaten beautiful barbecues in the street and dined with friends in good restaurants and some basic restaurants too. Each has its own charm
