Is it better to book a hotel over the internet or to go to the hotel in person and see if you can get a better deal? If there was a diffrence of price how much was there.

If you are good at bargaining and can speak Chinese, go to the hotel...most don't get full up, unless there is a trade fair or something. I only ever book for one or two nights so I can consider changing hotels if I want to...tho of course longer stays are worthy of better discounts

Thanks for responding I can speak a little mandarin enought to get my point across I was curious as to how much of a discount you could get from the best internet price compared to a in person deal. Have ypu got any example you can use as a example. Sometimes I wonder for the ease of knowing that you have room how much is the price diffrence.

Personally, no. I use the 50 to 70 RMB hotels which never get near the Net. In those I have not got much discount but then my chinese is near zero and I cannot be bothered arguing much at those prices.
