AK47, one of the world's most famous assault rifle, designed by Mikhail Timoeevich Kalashnikov in 1946, was finalized in 1947. In 1949, AK47 began to equip troops widely, including Soviet Union motorized units, security of air Force and navy.

Now, AK47 is not only the world's most famous assault rifle, but also the most extensive rifle equipment. Except Soviet Union, former Warsaw Pact countries and a large number of third world countries also equipped it. Currently there are over 30 countries of the world equip it as military equipment, some of them had got the right of imitation or license production. Israeli Galil 7.62 rifle, Finland's Valmet M60/M62/M82 rifle, are designed in the reference to AK47. As a noted incomplete statistics, AK47 assault rifles and imitation or by developing a series rifles in the world consumption of nearly 100 million.

At present, in less developed countries, like Africa. Ak47 is very common for becoming the famous weapon of civil war. And of course, you will see it in the hands of many terrorists.

just now i search with google for the full name of AK47. that is Avtomat Kalashnikov Model 47. though i cannot understand russian, i am sure that it is named by the inventor.

"AK" comes from the designer's Russian name—— Михаил Тимофеевич Калашников or English translation "Avtomat Kalashnikov" .
