![]() | As a native Chinese, I've never traveled abroad. What a pity! But when I was young, I used to travel with my parents and have been to many cities, such as Beijing, Tianjin, Xi’an, Chengdu and Kunming. Among them, I like the latter two because Chengdu’s foods are very delicious and snacks there are in various kinds while Kunming’s climate is quite comfortable and the ethnic culture there are quite brilliant. My next tourist destination is Dalian in Liaoning Province for I’ve heard that it is a extremely beautiful and clear coastal city in China. What’s your feeling of Chinese tourist cities, my dear friends? |

However, some cities have made a big impression on me, though each for different reasons. Most cities have things that both endear them to you and also put you off. I think my favourite city at the moment is Changchun. Changchun is clean and green (for a NE city), has a good mix of China with a dash of the "west" with some nice little cafes. The vibe there is very relaxed, the people open and friendly and I felt comfortable and safe. Much underrated as a city, I think. |

![]() | Widening my answer a bit..but then I often do !.........I haven't travelled to some well known cities that have a great reputation so I expect my ideas to change some day. There is nothing wrong with Shenzhen that LP mentyioned but all my guide could show me was shops, at least Guangzhou has some interesting old areas. I liked Shanghai, but would not want to live there unless I was on a true expatriate salary and then it could be fun! I liked the smaller Guangdong cities of Zhanjiang (and hope to return there) and Zhaoqing (see accompanying picture). Even though I liked Sanya, I was disappointed by it, but maybe that's because I have been spoilt as I come from a country with such wonderful beaches. I prefered Haikou on the north of the island. But maybe I need you to show me Sanya's attractions, SanyaChina - it's not so far from Zhanjiang! And my dislike cities are, with apologies to any TCG friends who live in them, Fushun in Liaoning, and Xuwen in the extreme southwest of Guandong. ![]() |
