Help. Ningbo, Shanghai and Putuoshan

I will be going on a China tour in May. My tour ends on 5/11 and we will be staying in Shanghai for a few days before we fly out on 5/14. However, my parents want to visit where they were born, in Ninbo and Putuoshan. I NEED HELP. What is best way/quickest way to get to those places from Shanghai. Does anyone know the bus/train schedules and how long it will take. We really only have a day and a half. Let me know. thanks.

Quickest and most convenient might be by bus (about 2.5 hours journey time) from Shanghai South long-distance bus station.
There're also D trains which take about the same amount of time, but with slightly less departure times.
Taking into consideration travel time to the airport and check-in time (and any possible delays), flights won't be the quickest option, though the actual journey time would of course be the shortest -- and the cost the highest.

I've not been to Ningbo and it doesn't seem particularly interesting to me either. Where did you end up going for the holiday?
