Bienaqui, I can assure you that you will ALL be looked at. Maybe you will get a little more attention than the whites but in my experience (as an observer) you should not have any problems. I accept that blacks might have troubl;e with taxis and getting their own accommodation, for the reasons people have said above, but that shouldn't be a problem in a tour group.
I have noticed that all people who are foreign and different are stared at a bit more... for example a large busted (white, in this case) US teacher caused a gasp when she was introduced to students. there are not as many 'fat' (sorry I don't mean to offend anyone) peopel here... so the larger bodied person is unusal and looked at. I have very blond hair and kids look...and I like the young ladies looking...very flattering.

In matters of dress.. we had a very long discussion in here one time... You will get looked at if you show more than kust a little cleavage...showing large areas of breast..as is common in Australia (and presumably elsewhere) has not become fashionable here so you will be looked at, but I doubt you'll get any actual complaint.

Enjoy yrself :)

I live in Thailand and here there is a strange attitude towards black skin , not black people but the actual color of the skin , here no matter how hot or how hard the work all Thai's who work outside in farming or constrution and so on will cover themselves from head to toe including the face , just a slit for the eyes, this is because they do not want the skin to get any darker, the darker the skin the more menial the job they do, as a bank clerk is not exposed to the sun but a guy who digs ditches is he is lower class, so when 'black' skinned tourists like say the president of a US bank comes to town if he has black skin he is low class no matter how much money he has, here its not predudice as we know it, its old tradition that will not go away

GUESTNISEY I am supposed to go to Harbin China and I am An African American female.
My plans were to work and live there a a short while. I had also met a guy from Harbin as well and we are dating and planning for marriage. We would eventually move back to the United States and marry here as well . How are mixed couples treated there ?

GUEST05176 let's say that chinese treat all foreigners with a dose of suspicion (or fear), but they treat afro-americans with a bit higher dose of fear (or suspicion). Be prepared to be constantly STARED at you. But in should be no problem

GUEST61232 African-american, Black-british, Black-westindian, Black-south American or wherever we come from we are all from the black race, so for anyone to try and separate black african from black americans are ignorant.

As a black South American i am highly disgusted by the comment about black African- American being different from Black African. Don't try and seperate the two as we are all from the same race and proud of it.
