A poor student of Northwest University for Nationalities, Shan Shengliang, and his classmate Fu Juan picked up 50,000 rmb in the campus. They soon handled it to the campus guard and found the owner of lost property in few hours.

It is said that Shan is a poor student that even don't have money to go home during the Spring Festival.

It reminds me a piece of news I read last year. A couple lost 190,000 rmb in a taxi and tried their best to find the taxi driver. However, they didn't find the driver and the driver didn't contact them for several days. Finally, they called the police for help and called the local newspaper and broadcasting station. They promised to pay 30,000 rmb to the one who found this money.
Five days later, the taxi driver called the local broadcasting station and said he would return the money. But he asked for the 30,000 first...

As I have said in many threads, in China you are more likely to have people return your lost property than have it stolen. But I still keep a close eye on my possessions :)

Isn't it the same in most countries, the poor are the most honest?

Yes, Paul. Many poor are more noble-minded.

No, I don''t think so. It's depends on the greedyness. Some poor people are not only far away from the noble mind, but they are "working" as robbers, thieves, prostitutes, etc.
In the same time some rich people are not greedy and they have no motivation to cheat, lie, etc., so they will return your money too, if they find.
It is a very big MYTH that the poor one is full of goodness. It is not necessary. The living conditions even give him/her enough motivation to be eager to earn SOME/MANY money/things for living. As far as it is NOT SO SIMPLE and EASY, he/she will be not "predestinated" to be all time long very good.
Tell me which lion is better for a lonely man in the jungle?

a/ The lion who ate few antelopes.
b/ The lion who live close to the desert and haven't eat 2 weeks?

Then I think the average people are more noble, for they are most likely to be content with their living conditions.
