A plane in the smoke? What is the cool moment? The smoke? Or the plane itself? Is the smoke somehow useful in a battle?

That's not smoke, we call it sonic barrier which usually forms in ultrasonic time

I believe it is just vapour forming in the rapidly de-pressurised air, if so it is just an indication of the extreme nature of the airplane's handling manouvre.

The vapour formed is not intended to serve any military purpose that I am aware of.

I have seen several displays of this, and similar, aircraft, and often seen this kind of vapour trail formation from the leading edges of wings during hi-g turns, but I have never seen it as all-enveloping as shown in the first two photos. Maybe the weather conditions on the day of the display were very special, and enhanced the effect.
