As a child, my Grandmother from Ireland told me all about the actions that could bring bad luck. And she had many stories about the special Irish spirits like the banshee, leprechauns, and witches.

Are you sincerely superstitious?

Do you have a superstition that you practice...just to be careful, just in case superstitions are real?

Does China have stories of spirits like the banshee, leprechauns and witches?

Beliive in somthing, but don't be superstitious.

In fact, although i am a researcher in science, unfortunately i have to admit that lots of chinese are superstitious about *science*, (Of course it has its root in the last 150 miserable rhistory of china)

China has many systems of god and spirits, such as the Taoism system and Buddism system, which is kindof like the Christianity and heterodoxy system. But the religions treat each orther harmoniously in china, when compared to the latter. ( just state my opinion, apologize if you think it's an intrusion)

Yes, my parents also infused suspicious beliefs when I was young. For example, when I'm combing hair or looking into the mirror in the night, she would take them away from me, saying that I would be scared by the ghosts. At first I believe what she said but I gradually I just did what I want and let it alone.

I think to believe sone numbers will bring bad luck is a kind of superstition. For example, the number ‘4’ is regarded as a bad number that means death. So some car owners are not willing to have 4 in the plate number.

I have heard that some bus drivers and passengers are afraid to take the bus with the number of 514 (wo yao si – I will die). It is really a reflection of superstition. Isn’t it?

I remember a short story collection called 'Liao Zhai Zhi Yi 'written by Pu Songling (1640-1715) in the Qing Dyansty.

In this book, Pu has written many stories about ghost, spirit and goblins. Actually these stories reflect the black side of that feudal society. The stories now have been performed in TV series and films. Have you read the book or watched the film?

Anyhow, I love these stoies. They are really mysterious and full of imagination. : D

Another story of a Ghost Rhadamanthus 'Lu Pan'. In the picture, he is changing the head of the girl lying in bed. The girl's husband want her to be more beautiful and he asked Lu Pan to change a beautiful head for his wife.

The more beautiful head once belonged to another girl who fell in love with a hansome young man but dead unfortunately.

After changing the head, the wife is not allowed to go out. One day, she stealed out and just met the young man, the dead girl's boyfriend!

The spirit of the dead girl came back and tied herself on the wife's body. A moving love story continued then......
