Hello! Last year, I took my parents back to China (they left around 50 years ago). Part of the trip included visiting Kaiping where my mother is from. It was only a day trip though, and I will be returning later this month to spend more time to relax and just explore my mother's home town (especially the watchtowers). Last time, we had some cousins who drove us out there from Guangzhou. I do not want to burden them again. I know there are buses that leave several times a day to Kaiping from Guangzhou. Where exactly is the bus station? Is it easy to buy a ticket? (my Mandarin is very rudimentary). Will it be a problem dragging my luggage onto the bus? Thanks!

I am not sure of the exact location of the bus station. There are actually two of them..situated across a very busy intersection from each other. To buy tickets simply find the ticketing booths and tell them where you want to go. Luggage is usually no problem (Depending on how much you have of course.) The buses are modern and have lots of luggage capacity.
I can tell you this: The bus stations are only a few minutes drive from the China Hotel and the DongFang hotel. So if you can find your way to one of those then it should be easy. At the China Hotel the staff speak impeccable English and will be happy to point you in the right direction. Ask one of them to write out your request in Chinese. Saves a lot of hassle.

Yes, check the web site.
Chetwynd direction is too practical.
Two bus station in Guangzhou. One directed by Chetwynd and other some apart from the city center.
Car Driver OK for you. Just tell him your destination and bus station in Mandarin/Cantonese. That's OK.

Hi,
Re my initial post. I have just remembered that the bus stations which I mentioned are also right next door to the GuangZhou railway station. NOT GuangZhou East station. So if you get to the railway station you will be at the right place.
Happy travels.

Thanks,

Take bus at Kai Ping Yi Ci Ke Yun Zhan (开平义祠客运站) to Guangzhou directly. It departs every 20 minutes from 06:05 to 19:25.
