Since in middle school, my English teacher told me that for the westerns, age was a secret, for always; therefore, we shouldn't ask their age when talking with them. It would offend them.

Age is the most natural thing. As time passes by, people will definitely grow older and older, no mather who you are. But why age is secret?

Yes, in China we are all taught not to ask the age of the westerners when we had English class. I feel a little puzzled at that time.

But now, as I become older and older with the years passing by, I would not like to tell others about my age when someone asked me. May westerns like me would not like others know that I' m old. Haha...

My mother, who just turned 80, is telling everyone that she is 76!

In the USA there are actually laws about asking someone's age in the workplace. I believe it is the boss who has to be careful asking about age - because of possible age discrimination law suits.

in the past it was bad manners to ask a lady her age, but should she be asked a lady will always say 21 (the old age of adulthood). These days few people are offended if you ask their age, but they might politely not tell you, or lie!, I don't want to admit my age, I want people to think I am younger ! :)

Yes, many of us have laws which are supposed to prevent age discrimination in the workplace.

Boys won't care about their ages too much. and girls think that men are mature when they are older. Of course, I do not mean the elderly.
