Was wondering if anyone knew what the situation was for mainland Chinese trying to get visas/residence permits to live and work in Hong Kong? Might be more for chinese than expats. I've heard it's a bit tricky. Me and the girlfirend are thinking about moving there, I'm British, she's Chinese. Cheers for any replies!

Thanks! That's got all the stuff I need. I think it's ok, provided you get permission from a decent sized company and it's a professional position. Sorry to hear you live out in the sticks by the way, from the other thread. I'm sure it's good for learning chinese though. In a big city there's a tendancy to fall in with the expat crowd and all my chinese friends can speak pretty good english as well. Saying that it's probably just laziness on my part. Thanks again

| there are formal procedures for applying or renewing a visa into Hongkong, and there arent any speculations about that... So you can refer to the Hong Kong Immigration =>http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas.htm But there are immigration criteria and categories to fit in. What exactly are you doing, located and what kind of entry visa into Hong Kong etc?? Generally speaking, most people can enter into Hong Kong without a visa for a short stay but need checking for individual case. As for employment visa, it must be applied or renewed by the employing company, not by individual. HK Immigration enquiry : immd.gov.hk|enquiry If you are around in china, you could also call the immigration up, they are easily approachableā¦ tel (852) 2824 6111, by fax (852) 2877 7711 |

FAERIEQUEENE: >>Generally speaking, most people can enter into Hong Kong without a visa for a short stay but need checking for individual case. << HI FQ, In our situation the person is a Chinese national from the PRC (Guangzhou). Can you tell me if she needs a visa to go to Hong Kong for less than a day? Ironically she needs to visit the Visa office. If she needs one which office Hong Kong or Beijing does she need to apply to? And if she needs one, how long will it take to get it from the time of mailing until it's received? TIA

Yes, China nationals should need a permit to enter into Hongkong. There are so many mainland visitors daily, it should be very easy to apply, at the local Security Bureau, I suppose.
