![]() | Arsenal stretched its winless streak to four games yesterday after being held to a 0-0 draw at Newcastle in the Premier League. Arsenal, which had lost its previous three games, lost for the first time in the league at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, falling to West Ham 1-0, The Associated Press reported. The Gunners have never lost four straight games under manager Arsene Wenger. Arsenal is playing without injured strikers Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie, and the team created few chances yesterday. James Milner had the best chance for Newcastle, hitting the crossbar in the 46th minute. "I am disappointed we have only taken a point and I am sure I will be even more disappointed when I review the 90 minutes," Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder said. The draw kept Arsenal in fourth place, four points behind Liverpool. Portsmouth lost to last-place Watford 4-2, only two days after beating league leader Manchester United. Also, it was: Aston Villa 1, Wigan 1; Bolton 1, Everton 1; Fulham 1, Manchester City 3 and Charlton 0, Reading 0. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all have the day off because they play in European competition later this week. United leads the league with 78 points, only three more than Chelsea, and faces AS Roma today in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. Roma won the first leg 2-1. Chelsea plays at Valencia, also today in the Champions League, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. "It's not disrespect to Roma ... but I would love Manchester United to win tomorrow, is the only thing I could say. I would love them to progress to the semifinals," Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said in Valencia before adding, "so they can play two matches more." |
