Siberian Tiger ate his own baby!

Really a sad news!

In Changsha, a Siberian tiger in Shiyanhu Zoo gave birth to a liger baby on March 31. She was so agitated that she ate her own baby!! The liger baby was teared into pieces by his own mother!

How cruel!

And the liger is so rare and precious! What a pity!!

A Big Cat in a Zoo will always be in difficulty, it is so much against the nature of the beast to be contained.

Was the mother cruel to the cub? Impossible to make such a judgement about an animal.

Are we cruel to keep such animals in Zoos? Possibly - but it is undoubtedly educational, and even survival of species may be enhanced, so does serving the greater good justify such 'cruelty'?

Now when I go to Changsha later this year I will have to see the Zoo, and form my own judgement about how much cruelty may have been involved.

The tiger must be out of mind in the zoo.
