Winter journey to Beijing may bring you another kind of surprise if you come from tropic countries. Enjoy the snow scene on the West Hill, skate in Beihai Park, and then have a steaming hotpot with mutton slices will drive out all the chilliness. While be sure to bring enough winter clothes, woolen sweater, cotton-padded or feather-padded clothes.
It will be cold (it'll be minus 7 tonight) and possibly snow on the ground. The colder it is, the less people there are at the big sites and the more impressive they are, especially the Forbidden City and the Wall.

Thermal or silk underwear in Winter, layering to a padded jacket which can be taken off indoors. And one good pair of flat walking shoes.
Snow may not be to bad for early Dec, so visiting those historical places should not be a problem. Going up to the Great Wall may be bitterly cold, so bring something warm.
