I don't think China is any harder to understand than any other country. Sure, it's history and culture are vastly different from Western or African or Middle Eastern or Indian history and culture, but isn't that more reason to study? Anyway, it's definitely possible to learn and continue learning. I think the reasons for misunderstanding is not because China is somehow more complex or different, but because for so long China has been held up as a model of "un-understandable", when in fact it's been the sheer laziness and arrogance of certain key westerners that has made China "un-understandable". Right from the earliest days of Sino-Western contact, Chinese and Western people have been learning about and coming to understand each other and there's no reason this can't continue.

As for "many people of other countries don't know there is a nation called China": If you're talking about people who've never had the chance to go to any school of any kind, fine, but those same people will have never heard of my homeland. In fact, many Chinese people who have attended school have never heard of my homeland, and many highly educated Chinese no very, very little about my homeland. So what? In this respect, China is no different from anywhere else, again.

Anyway, I hope we can all work to further understanding of each other everywhere.

"Many countries have deep misunderstanding of China.
They treat us as fearful flood."

No, I think the countries understand VERY WELL, but the Truth is not usefulfor their politics, so, the countries prefer to lie their peoples and the result is what you say :) This is a part of the politics.

"Sure, a lot of people misunderstand China, and that misunderstanding leads to fear, and a lot of it is caused by blatant propaganda, but still, China's doing a pretty good job so far of winning hearts and minds- I mean sending out positive images of China and cultivating people's interest in China."

Of course, but some of these people are so stupid that they think that these pictures are made by photoshop or they are not often. In their ind is something like this: "Everywhere is bad in China, but the agents like you are making images only from the fancy streets and show us lies.". Can you imagine it?

"In many countries, including many Western countries, people now view China more positively than they view America."

Hehe, America is on the bottom already, it is normal.

"For example, I read a stroy written by a Chinese student in US. He said he's rather frustrated when his teacher asked the class to use one thing to represent their homeland. He couldn't use only one thing cos there are so many things can represent China but none of them is typical enough."

Yes, it is normal for most of the countries in the world.

ONLY ONE THING: Middle Eastern is pretty close to Chinese at all, and it is identical to West Chinese (Xinjiangnese).

The school is not reason. For example in the Chinese schools we can learn AT LEAST the name of the country Sri Lanka, but it not means that later all of the people will remember it.

"Anyway, I hope we can all work to further understanding of each other everywhere"

Right!

Yes, unfortunately, I can imagine it. My mother seems convinced that China has not changed since the Cultural Revolution.
