![]() | Last year I went to Ermei Shan & Leshan during October, the national holidays and it was terrible. The tour guide rushed us thru at Leshan and some of my tour group members complained that they were going too fast as they could not catch up but the guide continued to go at his pace and told them to meet at the ending point, and it was really packed during that season. So why vist these places during the festive season, I really feel that it's not worth the trouble. same goes to Ermei Shan, when we reached the top, we had to quee up to feed the monkeys. I suggest that if you're really there for the senery avoid the heavy traffic period. Avoid the crowd take your own time and enjoy at your own pace. |

![]() | No problem Griz. On my last trip there, there was an old lady I think she was at least 65 years old or more, she had no problem, all the way ahead of me. Just if you really cannot take it in Ermei shan you can take the cable car halfway up the mountain and start from there. waorst if you cannot even take it halfway you can pay for some guys to carry you up, I think something like 80RMB(not too sure) So there's no way you can't make it up to Ermeishan. A word of caution, you may find a lot of stalls selling souveniors, don't ever buy them, they may seem cheap to you but it's about 3 to 5 times the normal price. Enjoy your trip. |

![]() | I was thinking of the entire hike that in my travel guide says is 60km...that is a big hike. Did you do the 3 day trek? That's what I am considering..... There are at least two shorter routes...but to do the whole climb is challenging? Too much...or just a challenging experience? |

![]() | Actually, Emei Shan is quite interesting by hiking. Especially those monkeys. |

![]() | It'll definitely be challenging but my advise is to avoid the Mayday holiday. Too crowded for sure, imagine you have to quee up 45mins just to feed the monkeys whenyou reached the peak. There's a lot of monkeys up there, even before you reached the peak, just outside the temple there's lots of them there, can't really recall which temple as there are quite a few up there. Hope you'll enjoy the trip. |

![]() | Hi Griz, I visited Emeishan in summer a couple of years ago and it wasn't too crowded. It isn't always easy to find the route and I did a very long and tiring hike - not the shorter route. I'm pretty fit and used to climbing, and I found it really tough - I did it over 2 days. Few people made it up to Elephant Bathing pool monastery (about 4 in total) when I was there. I then had to get up at a ridiculous time in the morning and try and find my way in the dark to the summit. NOT easy - but great fun!! The steps are a real killer, they are never-ending and a real grind. If you want to do the long treak, I advise you to take your time about it and enjoy the mountain - it's really beautiful. The monkeys are buggers - they'll steal anything - and I met some on the path outside the "normal" area and they were pretty aggressive, so just make sure you keep everything out of sight or they'll be on your back - literally :) Leshan was super busy with tour groups and I had to queue for hours to see it, but it was worth it. My advice is to take something to shield you from the sun, queueing in the burning heat isn't much fun. Enjoy yourself. I loved both of these places. |
