Ever staying in China for 35 years and now 86 years old, Mr. Sidney Rittenberg (Chinese name: Li Dunbai) is the only member of Communist Party of China with American nationality. On a recent seminar held in Washington, Rittenberg told younger specialists in Chinese issues that ‘Do not look upon China with an American mind’. He said that
‘If you go into China’s city strees, you will find Chinese people are holding an optimistic and active attitude towards life.’
‘Do not expect too much on China’s economic development’
‘It’s good so long as it is forcing its way ahead, no matter how slowly it is developing.’

In my opinion, foreign specialists in Chinese issue should adopt an objective attitude so that they could better understand China’s national situations thus guide their people’s perception of China.
