Do you have a habit of doing accounting?

When I was an undergraduate, I used to see some of my friends carried about a booklet. I asked what it was used for, and they told me it was a private tally book for recording the daily cost. I was a little bit surprised and wondered whether it was necessary to do a private accounting. Some said it would be shown to their parents, while some said it was just a habit to manage their money well. For me, I would never have such a habit cos it makes me feel dizzy when doing the accounting. But I wonder how many people have this kind of habit, and what is the advantage?
