Tranquil? I haven't been to most of those cities, but I certainly would not include Guilin in a top-10 list of tranquil cities anywhere. Jinghong, Xishuangbanna, Yunnan gets my vote for tranquil.

What are the criteria for 'Tranquil' and is this the most appropriate translation to English Most of these seem like they have been will chosen. I have been through four of these and all of those were enjoyable. Urumqi, Guilin, Yantai and Qinhuangdao. Not sure that I would use 'tranquil' to discribe any of them but all four would be places where lifestyle is generally easy going and comfortable in very pleasant and desirable environments.

Let you know when I find a 'tanquil' city in China. There are plenty of small towns that fit the bill but cities???? I don't know. Zhuhai came close though in my estimations.

and by the way, i don't think Shenyang should be in the list. it is the biggest city in northeastern China, morden and noisy, not tranquil at all. this is just my own opinion!
