GUEST67136 Hi Kiwichinese. I'm Raymond Chan from Stoddard Road medical Centre, Auckland . I helped organise the Sun Gai Chan reunion 10 years ago here in NZ and edited the booklet on Sun Gai Village. You should post the photos of the gravestones. I will be visiting Sungai soon, and can circulate the information, and try contacts here in Auckland. It's almost impossible to find Sun Gai on Google maps because its called 'Xin Street Cun ' ( New Street Village ) but if you google this name it wont register, but if you look hard you will find it near the mouth of 'East River' of the Pearl River area. Cheers

GUEST14441 The village is being leveled and will become part of a new super city. A pity there is going to be a lot of changes in the area

Hi, I'm doing my project on this. I'm looking at rapid urbanization (which China is currently experiencing) and I'm looking into my paternal grandmothers village of Sun Gai. I need more information on the fate of this village!!! I am so desperate to find a source that can tell me what is going to happen, all I have is whispers and hearsay. I have heard that it'll be torn down to make way for a new international super mall???

Email me if you have any info of know anyone who might. gmail.com|Staceycolleena

GUEST11686 Dear Raymond,

Just read your website information. My grandfather and father are from SUN GAI VILLAGE. I lived in Auckland for a few years in the 1970's and realised most of the Zengcheng migrants of old and for that matter Sungai people live in NZ.
I am from Brisbane where my maternal grandfather settled and he is from Gualingcun which is on the otherside of the expressway on the maps about 1km away from Sungai Village.

My relatives in Auckland are Peter Chan and Ronald Chan. There is a Billy Chong as well as a Michael Chong and Lawrence Chong who owned fruit shops on the North Shore in Takapuna and Northcote and they are my relatives.

My paternal grandfather was called Henry Chong and he owned a fruit shop first in Parnell and then in Northcote.

My father before he passed away had my name entered in the village roll in Sungai and I am the 28 generation of my line. The males in my generation have the first name of KWOK(GUO) meaning country to identify our position in the generational hierarchy.

I am interested in finding out about your past travel to Sungai Village(Xin Street Cun) and hope to receive any bits of information that you may have about the Sungai people.

Michael Chan.
