The most powerful British nuclear submarine, HMS Astute, was unveiled on 8th May, 2007. It is said the nuclear submarine will be launche on 8 June 2007. Now it is being built at the BAE Systems shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria.
This submarine has some characteristics:
1. No need to refuel. A nuclear reactor is designed in the ship and it can serve 25 years' operation of the submarine.
2. Due to its size, it can operate closer to the shore and provide huge firepower for shore based operations.
3. This ship has smaller crew members and each will have his own bed instead of hot-bunking.
4. The design of this ship is more complex than a space shuttle.
5. The ship has a faster speed under water than on the surface.
6. The captain sleeps 10 meters from its nuclear reactor.
Let's see some data of this submarine.
