Hi, SAKDI, if you want to know more about history of forbidden city, maybe you could go to the library , Beijing Library in Baishi Bridge Station, you may go there by bus No. 105, and walk a little, or other buses . It's the biggest library in Beijing, maybe you will find some information related to Forbidden City, but when you arrive there, you should sigh up as a reader first , you have to take your ID card with you:)

The Forbidden City was the highlight for my visit to Beijing. Naturally, there are places around and outside of Beijing that you will want to visit like the Great Wall, Ming Tombs, Summer Palace, etc.

I suppose the Forbidden City could easily involve a stay of several days depending on your interest and profession. For the average tourist, a stay of half a day would probably be the most you would get from a tour.

On my last visit, I did the tour on my own. You can rent a a cassette recorder and tape that will guide you through the highlights of the site. You can visit at your own pace, stop and enjoy what pleases and interests you. For this type of visit, I would reserve an entire day. 怎么样?(zen3 me yang4 - How does that sound?). Happy travels!
