Hello Evening,

I work with a few individuals from China. Casual conversations indicate satisfaction with life in the U.S. They feel that spoken English is a significant obstacle in their daily activities. Each of my Chinese friends admirably focuses on enhancing his/her speaking skills. Two individuals, both students, have mentioned some difficulty in the job "search". Both individuals thought the spoken word was a significant negative during job interviews. Moving to a different culture can be exciting and rewarding, but there are also many challenges.

Hi Kenxi,

Thanks for your deep answering!

Yes it is a bilateral matter. Exciting but difficult, challenging but rewarding!!!

Anyway, I think most of these expats are enjoying their life!!

Language is a big obstacle?? Yes, maybe. As a English major, I somtimes confused with what you foreigners talking if you talk a little fast...... hehe..

Oh, is this the same for foreigners in China? Do you think language is a big problem??

Hello Evening,

I feel certain that it is the same for foreigners in China. Many times the foreigner does not experience "easy" communication -- it takes extra effort. For many it is a great learning experience.

It is an "issue". With a bit of everyday language experience, a good attitude, and a phrase book, an individual can reduce the significance of the issue.

Ken
