![]() | I am employed by a Chinese company that has supplied me with a residence permit. I signed a contract and have 9 months to go on my permit but want out because of the treatment Im getting. Only problem is that if I leave I will loose my permit and cant get a F visa until this expires. (I have done this in the past with no prob as an Australian citizen). Any ideas? I have heard that at the Chinese consulate in HK I can apply for a tourist visa and this will cancel my current visa. Is this true? Will they require a release letter from my current company because I doubt they will give me one). Cheers, |

![]() | Unless you get approval and get you permit transferred to a new empoyer, you will lose the permit....a permit is only valid while correctly employed. Alternatively resign formally stating the reasons and request the employer to have the permit cancelled. You will then need to get a temporary tourist vissa which only entitles u to stay 15 days - you can then exit the mainland and apply for your F visa.. but you will need the business invitation etc. If you cannot or dont want to involve the compant, maybe you can go direct to the PSB and ask for it to be cancelled and get the temporary tourist visa. Given the way each PSB works according to its own interpretation of the rules, if the business that will invites you has good contacts you might even be able to bypass the tourist visa. In all cases it would be a good idea to return the residence permit booklet I am basing these comments on my experiences but I hav not been in this situation. There are also at least 2 visa agencies based in Shanghai that you could contact. |

![]() | You might also try contacting your local Foreign Affairs Bureau. They should be able to take up your issues if they feel they are valid or at least open discussions. They are supposed to ensure that foreigners are not abused and ensure their city does not get a bad reputation. (according to my contact). You are supposed to hand in the resident's book a technical requirement and if you don't do so it might interfere with a future application. |
