GUEST19226 First, what i want to say is that i appreciate your hard work on learning chinese, you are my example of learning English! second, about your question i want to tell you is"If you want to be fluent in Chinese in a short time, you should know how to learn Chinese. First, you should learn Chinese pinyin. Then you should master how to learn Chinese characters. You can read some good materials to memorize pinyin and characters. With sufficient practice, you can read and speak Chinese fluently very soon. A website with lots of resources for Chinese learning I can recommend is that you can go to a professinal chinese on-line school. i advice you to go Echineselearning."

Time that was taken to grasp Chinese could be different from person to person. Your talent for language learning, education & language learning background and the efforts you like to make all can make a difference.

I have a German student. He learned for two months with a tutor in Shanghai, then took some full-time course in Beijing for 3 months, and he has been with me for further learning since Septemper.

His speaking and hearing are quite okay now. Because he does not want to learn about characters, we focus on vocabulary enlarging and conversational practice by role playing.

I guess it will take him around 1 year and a half to be able to speak and lisen well.

And I would love to describe him as a hardworking and smart learner. He is that kind of good student.
