Hi there,

I am looking at travel costs by plane to Beijing from HongKong airport. I think it's quite expensive, around $900 NZD. Is it cheaper to get there by train? If so does anyone know the cost?

go to this www.ctrip.com and you will find cheap flights 900RMB and get there in 3-4 hrs.I suggest to go to Shenzhen wich is about 50 min by metro from Hong Kong and fly from there because u won't find flights on ctrip.com from HK.Plus u can visit Window of the World there.I'm going there in july.Good luck

What a lifesaver, thanks for that, it's way cheaper, depending on the time, between $138 NZD and $122.

I typed in Shenzen and it didn't recognise the city so I put in Guangzhou to Beijing. I expect the train can get us to Guangzhou.

Thankyou I am very grateful!

Is it okay to assume that we would get a flight from Shenzhen to Beijing without making a booking before we leave NZ? Do Customs/Immigration want to see a return ticket from Shenzhen to Beijing?? We were planning on only purchasing the return ticket from Australia to Hongkong.

I would assume that will be better to have everything planned and confirmed before you leave,at least is my opinion bcause u don't have to worry about how u get there. It all depends on your budget.I don't think that customs are intreasted to see any tickets in regard to your travel in China but make sure you do get a visa for china from NZ so u can enter shenzhen

i think the planes are usually quite full and tickets could not be purchased at the last minutes. I wouldn't shop for a ticket on arrival to Shenzhen to depart in a few hours, and there's not much worthy to do if stuck in Shenzhen (Guangzhou might be better).

shenzhen have only a few daily flights to beijing but from Guangzhou there's a flight almost every hour or less and one can get a cheaper ticket on a non-peak time ie after the morning rush like after 10am for example - and fares are like between rmb 650 - 800. Always purchase thro a bigger travel agency for yr flight tickets - Ctrip is ok n will deliver the tickets to u.
